Stardust to Stardust: David Bowie's Persona Evolution
Farewell, Starman… you left us too soon. Just days after he released his final album Black Star, David Bowie died early this morning at the age of 69. His fame, electric style and iconic musical reinvention will forever live on.
Bowie exponentially rose to fame through his series of mysterious personas that evolved through his ever mind-bending album progression. A glorious time for hair, the 1960s and 70s was a time of excess and geometrical inspiration.
Let’s take a moment to remember the evolution of Bowie’s personalities through each hairstyle.
1) Ziggy Stardust (1970s)
Ziggy was Bowie’s alien-like spaceman, who fell to earth. During the promotion of the phenomenal Hunky Dory, Bowie fused glam rock and sexual ambiguity to manifest Ziggy Stardust, the mysterious alien rocker. He had a wild berry red mullet, neon blue eye shadow and glossy lips in the early seventies when the album Aladdin Sane was released.
2) Halloween Jack (1974)
With minor changes to his Ziggy look, Bowie donned an eye patch, continued to rock a fire red mullet, neckties and the one earring look perfectly. Halloween Jack’s character was the center of Diamond Dogs, his 8th studio album. Punk rockers, like The Runaways, would soon follow in his style footsteps in the late seventies.
3) Thin White Duke (1976)
Unfortunately, Bowie spiraled into stress and drug addiction when he developed a greaser look during his 10th album release Station to Station. He abandoned his space suit and cleaned up his look to a minimal white colored shirt, black slacks and strawberry blonde “city slicker” look.
4) Jareth, the Goblin King (1986)
Finally, we have his fantasy antagonist character from Labyrinth, King Jareth. In the late 80s David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly starred in the dreamscape film together alongside Jim Henson’s furry goblin characters. In wild metal rocker hair, frosty eye makeup and his neo-renaissance outfits… The Goblin King was a knockout character.
So, wherever you may be, Starman..."Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe.Put your ray gun to my headPress your space face close to mine, love.Freak out in a moonage daydream, oh yeah."Hailey Way is a blogger, digital strategist, model, and dancer. Keeping on our showstopper hair train, the equally, if not more talented musical queen, Beyonce is a lioness among performers and always has flawless hair. Get her no-stress waves from hot rollers or a curling iron with a barrel size of 2” or more and lots of teasing and hairspray.
Remember, what would Beyonce do?
With the perfect minimal makeup, the side swept romanticism of Kristen Stewart’s look is easily doable. Take a 1 to 2” curling iron, a little mousse or dry shampoo and bobby pins to keep the other side falling over the other shoulder. Maybe pair this hair with an iridescent dress for a romantic mermaid look.
What about the fierce short hair ladies?! The classic Edie Sedgwick pixie cut has made a come back this year and will surely carry on into the New Year.
Present day babes rocking this look, like Ruby Rose and Miley Cyrus, have enough of a statement with their looks. Style with pomade or a super hold gel to get a slicked back tough look. Or take model Agyness Deyn’s approach (below) and make your stand tall in this punk inspired look.
Happy New Year and have your best hair year yet!

To Shave, or Not to Shave! That is the question...
Rumor has it the hipster beard, mountain man, or burly bear beard is dead. The proof isn’t in the lack of hair walking the streets, so we decided to address the so-called beard graveyard. Other style sources, like Mashable, Men's Journal and even the Business Insider, say: it's time to shave, guys!
Once considered the ultimate sign of manliness, facial hair has a history as long as Russian mystic, Rasputin. Cavemen didn't have razors, so what's your excuse? But not so fast.....manly is subjective to all ladies and gents alike!
Do you really want Ragnar to shave?Just because clean shaven is the new black doesn't mean you have to follow the herd. There are so many factors into why beards stick around. Facial shape can affect the beard growth consideration.
Men with baby faces tend to keep a simple beard that frames the face and jawline. Others may take the demand from “some” women for a clean shaven face, or allow stubble for that sexy five-o-clock shadow. As for us, we’re certain it’s indefinitely not over yet.
Alas, if Joel says so, it must be true. Joel Alexander, blogger and fashion model, has a huge cult following for his famous bushy beard and he declares “the big beard trend is over and done”. His freshly shaven face is proof he put his money where his beard was. But, ladies (and guys)... did you like his decision?
Before and After Shave: Joel Alexander

Whatever your decision, bear whiskers or aftershave smooth, groomed is the new facial hair fashion. What do you think?

Sweet Buns
We just can't seem to get away from them or get enough of them... man buns, that is! What else could be both sexy and practical at the same time? Chilled and hot? Not quite sure if there is only one answer, yet we do know that the man bun trend sticks like glue.
It's a funny thing how one style can work for black tie or no tie. The daily grind and the special out of the ordinary occasion are perfect environs for this provocative updo.
The lovable guys are even more lovable when sporting this top knot. Colin Farrell and Jared Leto are spotted regularly with their mane reined.
And the not so lovable characters are, well, maybe even a little more likable. Check out Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler:
Fast and easy is the best kind of recipe for any bun. No measuring necessary - just grab some hair and a ponytail holder; twist and secure. Ready to rock and roll.
